Fit-for-Purpose Guidance for the Assessment of Disabled Children & their Families.
Guidance developed by independent Parent Carer Groups and individual parent carers will be launched at a webinar on the 12 July 2023 10:30am – 12:30pm. The document describes what they consider to be ‘fit-for-purpose’ guidance that Children’s Services practitioners should follow when undertaking an Assessment of the needs of Disabled Children and their Families for social care support. A copy of the Guidance can be accessed by clicking here and a flyer giving details of how to join the (free) webinar can be accessed by clicking here.
The guidance comes at an important moment, when the Department for Education (DfE) is consulting on amending the current ‘statutory guidance’ concerning the assessment process – namely ‘Working Together 2018’.
A copy of a briefing note concerning the consultation can be accessed by clicking here. As it notes, ‘Working Together 2018’ only contains two paragraphs that specifically refer to Disabled Children (it has 116 pages in total) and disappointingly the proposed revision has only four such paragraphs in its 158 pages.
